The installation ‘Fallen Woman’ refers to the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland into which it is estimated 30,000 Irish woman and children laboured, for free, under harsh and inhumane conditions. These industrial laundries were run by Nuns and frequently in tandem with the Mother and Baby Homes. The laundries and industrial schools were found all over Ireland and the last one closed in 1996.
